Job description:
As the Assistant General Manager (AGM), you support the other Assistant General Manager or General Manager (GM) in leading and overseeing the entire FOH team, ensuring exceptional service, strong team performance, and smooth daily operations. Your role is a balance of leadership, hands-on service execution, and operational management, making sure that guests have an outstanding experience while maintaining high efficiency in all FOH processes.
The AGM is responsible for team training, shift leadership, guest relations, event execution, and administrative support, helping to drive the business forward while fostering a strong team culture. You act as a bridge between the FOH team, the kitchen, and management, ensuring seamless collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
1. Service Leadership & Floor Management
- Lead FOH operations during service, ensuring smooth guest experiences across indoor, outdoor, mezzanine, courtyard, and pop-up areas.
- Set the standard for service, hospitality, and efficiency, acting as a role model for the team.
- Actively manage the floor, responding to guest needs, resolving service issues, and ensuring a positive atmosphere.
- Oversee guest seating and flow management, optimising table turnover while maintaining an inviting experience.
- Ensure all FOH stations (bar, floor, terrace) are well-staffed and well-coordinated.
- Work closely with the other AGM/GM to execute events, pop-ups, and high-volume service days.
2. Team Leadership & Training
- Motivate, train, and develop the FOH team, ensuring they are confident and knowledgeable.
- Lead pre-shift briefings, sharing important updates on menus, service, and reservations.
- Implement structured onboarding programs for new hires, ensuring smooth integration into the team.
- Assist in creating training modules for service techniques, menu knowledge, and wine pairings.
- Support FOH team members’ career development by setting goals and providing feedback.
- Act as the first point of contact for FOH staff in the absence of the other AGM/GM.
3. FOH Operations & Efficiency
- Ensure service runs efficiently and meets high hospitality standards.
- Maintain consistency in workflow, cleanliness, and organisation throughout the venue.
- Assist in shift planning and scheduling, ensuring coverage aligns with business needs.
- Support FOH logistics such as POS system management, table layouts, and order accuracy.
- Oversee the flow of communication between FOH and BOH, ensuring alignment between service and kitchen timing.
- Help monitor stock levels of FOH supplies, coordinating with suppliers as needed.
4. Guest Experience & Hospitality Standards
- Foster a guest-first culture, ensuring all patrons feel welcomed and taken care of.
- Handle guest feedback and complaints professionally, resolving issues efficiently.
- Train the team on upselling techniques and how to enhance the guest experience.
- Ensure the visual presentation of the venue is at its best, maintaining ambiance and cleanliness.
- Support other AGM/GM in developing loyalty programs and guest engagement initiatives.
5. Administrative & Financial Support
- Assist with weekly reports on FOH performance, including service efficiency, guest satisfaction, and revenue trends.
- Support cash handling, closing procedures, and daily reconciliation.
- Monitor sales, labor costs, and service efficiencies, suggesting improvements to optimise operations.
- Assist in creating FOH budgets and forecasting staffing needs based on business trends.
Skills & Attributes
- Strong leadership experience in hospitality and high-volume service environments.
- Ability to motivate and train a diverse FOH team.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Strong guest relations focus with a passion for delivering outstanding service.
- Solid understanding of workflow management, scheduling, and cost control.
- Strong wine, food, and cocktail knowledge to support the team and guest experience.
- Ability to handle multi-area service environments (indoor, outdoor, events, pop-ups, etc.).
